Frequently Asked Questions

Is this IP API completely free to use?▼

Yes. Our JSON API is free for personal, educational, open-source, and commercial applications up to 60 requests per minute per IP address. No credit card or API key is required.

What is the attribution requirement?▼

In exchange for free access, we require a visible, clickable backlink to https://ip-address-lookup.com on your website, tool, app credits, or documentation (e.g., 'IP data powered by ip-address-lookup.com').

What are the rate limits?▼

The free tier is rate-limited to 60 requests per minute per originating client IP address. If exceeded, the API returns an HTTP 429 Too Many Requests response with a retry recommendation.

Does the API support Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS)?▼

Yes. All responses include 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *' headers, allowing direct asynchronous client-side fetch() and axios calls from web applications.

Can I query domain names as well as IP addresses?▼

Yes. You can supply an IPv4, IPv6, or domain name (e.g. 'github.com'). If a domain is provided, our edge nodes automatically resolve the authoritative A/AAAA record before returning full network metadata.
